These terms apply when you use this website or buy an e-book from Walt Haskins’ Field Guides. By buying, you agree to them. “We” means Walt Haskins’ Field Guides (walthaskins.com), the publisher of these books and of the Walt Haskins channel on YouTube.
Who sells the book
Your order is sold and processed by Gumroad, which acts as the merchant of record: it takes the payment, charges any sales tax or VAT, and delivers your download. Gumroad’s own terms also apply to the payment.
What you buy
The Hidden South is a digital book: a PDF file (and its companion PDF, “Sources and Credits”) that you download after payment. It is not a printed book and nothing is shipped. Prices are in U.S. dollars and are shown before you pay.
Your license
- The book is for your personal, non-commercial use. You may read it on your own devices and print copies for yourself and your household.
- Please don’t share the file, post it online, resell it, or copy large parts of it. Short quotes with credit are fine.
- The text, layout and our own pictures are protected by copyright. Photographs by others are used under their licenses, listed in “Sources and Credits”.
About the content
We work hard to get the facts right, and each story carries an Evidence label that tells you how sure we are. Still, history is full of uncertainty and new findings, and the book is general information, not professional advice.
The “Visit today” pages describe public places. Opening hours, roads, fees and access change, sometimes without notice. Check the place’s official website before you go, stay on public land, respect posted rules and private property, and travel safely. You are responsible for your own trips.

Limits of our responsibility
The book and this website are provided “as is”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability for any claim about a purchase is limited to the amount you paid for it. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under the consumer laws of the place where you live.

We may update these terms. The version on this page on the day you buy applies to your purchase.
